as sung by Trust Company
edited excerpt from livejournal entry:
monday i went to a rock concert. first one i've ever been to. featured band playing was trust company. i'm madly obsessed with their song downfall right now.
anyways, back to the concert. they didn't start til an hour after the posted time. is a long time to wait when there aren't many chairs around. first band was pacifier. they kinda reminded me of a bunch of monkeys jumping around up there. as i told somebody in chat, i felt like one of the older kids watching the primitive rituals of the kindergarteners on the saturday morning cartoon recess. i wasn't really impressed with their music. maybe it was cuz i wasn't used to the earsplitting noise levels, or it might've been because i couldn't actually hear any of the words over the drums and bass.
blindside was the second band. i actually liked some of their music, although i still couldn't hear much wordwise. the lead singer was a tall, scrawny looking guy with black hair who reminded me of death warmed over. things got a little more hectic, people started shoving each other around and i got smucked in the lip. but i was getting the hang of keeping my eye open and pushing back, lol. anyways, the lead singer got right into the crowd, standing on pplz shoulders n such. he was either brave or stupid, i'm not sure which yet. he also did this spitting water thing...that was just plain gross in my opinion. still, it was on the other side of the crowd from where i was, so it was amusing to watch.
then trust company came onstage. they were by far my favorite. was trying to figure out why i was so impressed with them, at first i thought it was that they had dignity. but really dignity was the wrong word for it. they had class, which is something entirely different. whatever the case, they did impress me. i didn't know many of the words to their songs, which was a shame. if i would've been thinking i'd have stolen my sister's cd the thursday before. when they played their most popular song, downfall, they had the crowd sing along. i was really wishing i knew all the words about then, that was the first song i had heard of theirs and the one that i liked best. it has energy. and even tho there's a small amount of screaming in it, which usually i really dislike, it harmonizes somehow and fits perfectly with the lyrics, maybe because the words ARE understandable and easy to hear.
i like their style. the way their voices harmonize...it's a sweet sound, perfectly balanced. coupled with a heavy beat and lyrics that mean something to me...well, it doesn't get more perfect than that. that song has ENERGY. but back to the concert...
sister hurt her ear, she's had a little more experience with concerts and said the ppl there didn't know when they needed to turn it down. which i fully believe, it was LOUD. it was like three or four hours after the concert until i regained my full hearing. immediately after the concert it felt like i had cotton wool stuffed in them and everything sounded fuzzy. around the time blindside started playing i got a headache. i'm sure the noise level played a part, but i think it was mostly all the people smoking. it makes me sick at work just to be in the d-unit when they take ppl out the back door to smoke cuz the smoke seeps in under the door and makes the whole area reek. it was a thousand times worse there. it's a testimony to trust company that i entirely forgot about my headache when they began playing.
it was snowing and freezing that day, on the way back to the car i thought i was going to turn into an icicle. ended up with two free demo cds, one of pacifier and one of a band that didn't play that night. haven't even listened to them yet, somebody scratched up my sister's trust company cd so she let me have it. i've been listening to downfall nonstop pretty much since. it at least isn't scratched up in the slightest, lol. i'm currently obsessed with that song.
end excerpt
i particularly love the second verse to that song. yes, i WILL heal myself. i do have the strength i need. it's just a too slow process. am beginning to see changes happening tho.
